The Healthy Ansonians Task Force submitted a grant to the Duke Endowment in 1998 to buy and staff a mobile clinic to provide health services to people who lacked transportation or who lived in underserved areas of Anson County. A grant for $217,000 was awarded and the mobile clinic was purchased in 1999. Additional increments of $135,000 in 1999 and $100,000 in 2000 partially funded the clinic for the first three years.

Anson Community Hospital and grants from various agencies such as Carolinas Community Health Institute and Anson Community Hospital keep the mobile clinic in operation. Small donations also have been received from individuals and some churches.

The large white vehicle with the familiar Healthy Ansonians logo appears at shopping centers, churches, community events ... wherever its services are needed and requested. Working in collaboration with many other agencies including the Anson County Health Department, the Anson County Partnership for Children and Anson Parish Nurse and Health Ministries, the staff provides blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and diabetes, vision and hearing screenings. Counseling and referrals may be offered to individuals following a screening examination.

The staff also works to educate citizens about preventive health care practices and to raise awareness of health issues. Some specific targets have been flu shots for seniors, breast cancer awareness and prostate cancer screenings.

In 2004, the mobile clinic worked with Relay for Life to conduct a bone marrow drive. This screening is planned to be held every two years.
