Anson Parish Nurse and Health Ministries forms a partnership with area congregations of more than 30 churches. Parish nurses practice the concept of holistic health: body, mind and spirit.
Nurses in each church provide health programs and screenings according to the needs of their church. Topics relate to chronic disease; health education/wellness issues; substance abuse/counseling; financial/retirement planning; proper medications; and herbal medications. Nurses may refer people to physicians, counselors and/or agencies as indicated.
Physicians and health agency staff members have presented excellent programs in past years. Coming soon is a series of seminars on the cost of retirement and healthcare.
Some highlights for Anson County have been:
Men's prostate cancer screening for three years reaching over 400 men
Free mammogram screenings for 100 women
Bi-annual baby-sitting courses for 11- to 15-year-olds with American Red Cross certification
Ongoing CPR classes
Ongoing aerobics and activity programs in the churches
Health and exercise program "Journey with Jesus"
Healthy lifestyle program "Lighten Up" through MUSC
Eye screening in collaboration with the Lion's Club
"Tasty Treasures" nutrition program and creation of low-fat, low-salt cookbook
Health seminars with special speakers
